Decorating Fireplace Mantles, Staircases and
Cupboards for the Holidays |
Here are some of my own Christmas vignettes. I'm no
professional, but with
holiday decorating you don't have to be. Add your own
personality and some
ingenuity. There is no 'right or wrong' to this. When
you're done, take a snapshot of it.
Anything out of order will show up in the picture. |
Fireplace mantle decorated for Christmas
This
fireplace mantle display includes a Christmas scarf with
red tassels, greenery with
lights, and
glass icicles
from Old World Christmas.
There are bottle brush
trees, cardboard houses
and a glass Christmas
tree finial, set on a finial holder.
Now that I've taken a picture of this display, I
see that it's imbalanced. The larger set of
bottle brush trees should have been split up, maybe
one on the other side of the mantle. The miniature red feather tree
might look
better snuggled in with the bottle brush trees. I need two more
Christmas
stockings to balance underneath the mantle. |
Holiday Display in Cupboard
This
antique cupboard
is a situation where I pack away the everyday
stuff and replace it with my holiday collections.
Top
and bottom shelves have cardboard houses. Middle
shelf, and mixed in with the houses is my collection of
Bavarian Heritage figurines.
I love the Bavarian Heritage pieces and sold them on the
website at one time.
But the company stopped making them. Now I wish I
had kept more of them for myself! Especially the
limited numbered pieces.... They are so beautiful. |
Fruit Themed Display
This
is an
antique wall cupboard that we hung in
the kitchen. I added lots of assorted greenery on
top and
filled the greenery with glass fruit ornaments, letting
them spill over the front and sides. I call
this my
Della Robia display! |
Garland Festooned Staircase
This
was the
staircase in our old house - a 100 year
old Queen Anne. Now, that house was fun to
decorate for the holidays! I used a good quality
thick pine garland and added more various
pine picks. There are white lights, mauve roses,
dried globe amaranth and gold spray-painted tiesel.
There are salvaged gold curtain tie-backs with gold
tassels combined with a burgundy bow at each
peak. To finish it off, I added dried hydrangeas and glass walnut
ornaments from
Old World Christmas. |
Holiday Garland Over French Doors or Archway
In
the foyer of our old house were
French doors that
also lent themselves nicely to holiday decorating.
Here I hung a good quality pine garland intertwined
with a holly garland. Attached to this garland
(just at each peak) is a second garland of
pine cones - wired together at the top of each cone
to create a length of hanging pine cones. This
garland is positioned just at the bottom of the green
garland. It has the effect of a double garland. Huge pine cones
(from Florida)
hang from both ends. Dried hydrangea fills in the greenery and antique
glass
icicles are hung. I also added simple grapevine wreaths to each door
with
suction cups. |
